During this year we will be performing different types of experiments and activities. It is through these experiences that you will learn how to use the scientific method, gather data, use statistics, design an experiment, write a research paper and make an oral presentation.
In addition, we will be reading and discussing weekly science current events and related journal articles in order to learn how to evaluate other researchers’ work. This club will give you the background needed to advance and complete independent science research.
Some topics covered include but not limited to: scientific method, the process of research, graphing, data collection, APA citation, plants, microbiology, Drosophila, renewable energy, case studies and social research. You will also be encouraged to find a research summer program or internship.
Requirements: 1.Weekly current event and/or journal review and discussion. 2.Attend weekly meetings 3.Complete all research writing projects. 4.Maintain an up-to-date Lab Logbook. 5.Design and perform an experiment (This can be done alone or with a partner) 6.Goal of club is to have you enjoy research and to enter at least one research competition.
