Campus chapters is a program of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) that enables and encourages students to help eliminate poverty housing in partnership with Habitat affiliates in the United States and around the world.
At Habitat's headquarters in Americus, GA, the Campus Chapters and Youth Programs department organizes board approved chapters. Campus Chapters are unincorporated, student run, student-led organizations who work in partnership with local affiliates and homeowners. Through these chapters, students are provided with rewarding opportunities for fellowship, empowerment and leadership.
CAMPUS CHAPTERS HAVE THREE MAIN FUNCTIONS:
BUILDING Participation in the building and renovation of houses gives students hands-on opportunities to put their faith into action while building partnerships with Habitat affiliates.
EDUCATION Chapters educate their schools and local community about the need for decent affordable housing and the work of Habitat for Humanity.
FUND-RAISING Campus chapters raise funds for Habitat-related projects locally (Student Build) and globally. Fund-raisers can be organized through the chapters or in conjunction with an affiliate.
SUFFOLK AFFILIATE Over 35 High Schools and several colleges raise funds and participate in our annual Student Build each spring. All have School advisors who coordinate work days and join the students & Habitat homeowners in the building process. In addition to the participation of high schools from Suffolk & Nassau County. Working on a Habitat project is a building block of community service for the young people that volunteer their time to help families move out of unacceptable housing into decent affordable housing.
